We exist to make disciples of our community and culture

Through passionate worship and spiritual formation, we grow in Christ-likeness, serve as good stewards of God’s resources, reach out to care for others, and share the Good News in our community and around the world. Oak Avenue Church has some “non-negotiables” that help define what we believe and describe who we are as a people of God.

We confess, along with our brothers and sisters in Christ from the earliest days of the church, that “Jesus is Lord.” Here are some of the core beliefs that unite us at Oak Avenue Church:

 Our Beliefs

We believe in the majesty and sovereignty of God the Father

“Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, He is the King of glory. Selah.” Psalm 24:10 “To make known to the sons of men Your mighty acts And the glory of the majesty of Your kingdom.” Psalm 145:12

The Lordship and Centrality of Jesus Christ

“Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9 “For we do not preach ourselves but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves as your bond-servants for Jesus’ sake.” 2 Corinthians 4:5

The witness and work of the Holy Spirit

“Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.” Romans 8:26-27

The Bible is the word of God, the only rule of faith and practice

“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.” 2 Timothy 3:16 “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12

The purpose of our lives is worship, “to glorify God and enjoy Him forever”

“Sing to the LORD, all the earth; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples. For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods.” 1 Chronicles 16:23-25

 The need for personal conversion

“This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” 1 Timothy 2:4

The priority of evangelism and discipleship

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20

The importance of the Christian community

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:24-25

The call to live in a way that inspires others to faith in Christ

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
